You're Engaged Now What

you're finally engaged!!! But now what?

First off; Congratulations on your new engagement!! Wahoo!! You’ve been waiting what seems like forever for that engagement ring to land on your ring finger and then it begins to sink in… what do you do now? There’s planning, the guest list, the cocktail napkins, the dress… where do you even begin? But don’t worry – almost everyone feels this way! Here are The Springs’ recommended top 10 most important things to do after you get engaged.

Announce Your Engagement

Step one: tell your parents and loved ones that you’re engaged. Your parents (more than likely) might already know about your engagement but hearing it from you first is still such a special moment for them! You’ve found the one that you are going to share your life with – remember, at one point in time you were sharing your life with them! Once you’ve told your parents, move on to close friends and family. This is where it gets super FUN. You can opt to have an engagement party, you can take the classic ring selfie for social media, or even better BOTH! This leads us to number 2…

Get a Manicure

If you haven’t already – now is the time to treat yourself to a relaxing manicure. After all, your hands are going to be the center of attention for the next few weeks! You might as well have a fresh coat of paint and some trimmed cuticles to match your stunning ring 😉 This is also not the time to experiment with colors you don’t normally try. You don’t want to look back on photos and think ‘EW why did I choose THAT color?!’

INSURE. YOUR. RING.

We know this is not the most glamorous thing to do right after you get engaged, but it is absolutely worth it. Engagement Ring Insurance by brides.com’s definition is “a contractual means of risk management to protect you from financial repercussions in the event of physical loss, theft, or damage. The policies typically extend to all jewelry items submitted to the coverage scope and result in either replacement, repair, or cost reimbursement”. First, ask your fiancé if they got your ring insured at the time of purchase. If they did, fabulous – if not, you’ll need to get your ring insured ASAP.

Research Credit Cards

The average cost of a wedding in 2022 is about $22,000. Regardless of your budget – it can always help to have proper financial planning before you make those larger purchases. Certain credit cards can offer different financial benefits that you could take advantage of. For example, some cards offer a sign-on bonus of points or airline miles (hello honeymoon) after you’ve spent a certain amount of money. Or, there is the simple but effective cash-back card that you can choose. It can be very beneficial in the long run to do your due diligence to find the card that is right for you. Remember to find a card that fits your needs rather than molding your spending habits to fit the card.

Start a System

As soon as you get engaged, it’s always a good idea to have a wedding planning system in place. No matter what your go-to system may be, it makes the planning process so much easier! A few great systems are binders, manilla folders, or folders on your comptuer if you want to keep things digital. Staying organized makes it so much simpler for you to keep track of all the little details from your registry down to your vendors. Don’t forget to keep important documents like copies of vendor contracts and all your receipts!

Start Budgeting

Before you start looking into vendors and all the fun details, it is best to set a budget with your fiancé and/or your parents if they are contributing funds to your wedding. Having an up-front budget will help make some decisions easier such as which venue is right for you or how many people you are going to invite. The more guests you have, the more expensive the wedding will be.

Create a Vision Board

This is where the FUN begins! Hop on Pinterest and start looking up things that you’d like to have at your wedding! You can get inspired by looking up ideas for your theme, engagement pictures, dream colors, your favorite flowers, dresses styles; anything. This is also helpful to make lists of things that you definitely do not want to do as well! If you want a jumpstart on inspiration; take a look at our Pinterest boards!

Do your homework!!

When it comes to wedding vendors, it is best to know what you are getting into! Check out their websites, reviews, and learn as much about them as possible before booking. If the thought of handling all these vendors overwhelms you, you should look into hiring a wedding planner or coordinator. They can be expensive but worth every penny. Parents or members of your bridal party can also help you if you’re not interested in hiring a coordinator. Build your Wedding Website

It’s time to build your wedding website! Wedding websites are becoming the ultimate tool when it comes to easy wedding planning. Your website can be home to as much or as little as you want it to. Many couples use this platform for wedding updates, RSVPs, your love story, details about the rehearsal dinner, bridal party introductions, or even your registry!

Relax + Enjoy the Engaged Season

Last but not least on our list – It’s time to celebrate!! The season of engagement is such a special one (and in all the seasons with your soulmate, it is typically the shortest too). So just celebrate yourself and your fiancé by doing whatever pleases your souls. The season of engagement is a wonderful whirlwind of bliss and an outpouring of love. Use this season to celebrate your love and to remember why you are getting married in the first place!
