Winter Wedding Tips

Winter weddings are quickly becoming a new trend – and understandably so!! Although they are incredibly romantic and beautiful, winter weddings have their share of challenges. Thankfully, with a little bit of preparation and forethought, you can avoid these obstacles completely! We’ve put together a list of simple tips and tricks that will ensure your winter wedding is seamless!

Venue Choice

Your venue can make or break your wedding – but this is especially true if you are dreaming of a white winter wedding. Some things that you may want to consider would be having your ceremony and reception at the same venue or even in the same space. Not having to do much traveling and exposing everyone to those winter elements can be a game-changer. Additionally, traffic (especially in Texas and Oklahoma) can be a nuisance if there is ice or bad weather. Having your ceremony and reception at the same venue will eliminate this issue. Looking for a venue that can make this happen? Look no further than The Springs!

If you are planning a Christmas wedding specifically, remember to check with your venue about décor. They might have Christmas décor that they set out. You need to ensure that you either like it enough to keep it on your wedding day or that you are able to take it down. Attire

Don’t think that you have to stray from stunning wedding attire just because it is cold! There are plenty of sneaky tips that will keep everyone warm! Black tie weddings work well in the winter since everyone is more layered anyway!

For the girls, consider floor-length, long-sleeve dresses. Dresses with more coverage can conceal warming items like leggings or boots. Men can opt for dapper wool suits if they need a little extra warmth!

Winter Wedding Tips

Let your guests know if you are planning on holding the ceremony outside. Many will opt to bring thicker coats, scarves, and blankets. Having a coat check at the reception is a nice touch so guests can unload these items and enjoy the evening!

Warmth-Focused Favors

Winter is the perfect time to branch out and have fun with your wedding party and guest favors. You can get your bridesmaids things they can wear during the wedding such as scarves, fur capes, wraps, or gloves. Groomsmen’s gifts could be things like thick socks, beanies, or thick plush robes.

Winter is the perfect time to come up with a wedding favor that your guests will actually use! Some amazing ideas are hot cocoa bombs, custom mugs, to-go s’mores bags, mulling spices, a Christmas ornament, Chapstick or lip balm, fleece blankets, coffee bags, mini maple syrup jars, sugar or gingerbread cookies – really, we need to stop because the possibilities really are endless! Winter is the season of giving after all!

Photos

There are many things that you will need to consider when you take your photos. First, check what time the sun sets on your wedding day and add it to your timeline. The winter days are shorter, so you don’t want to run out of daylight! Taking your wedding party pictures before your ceremony will give you the perfect lighting and will make taking family photos so much easier.

When taking outdoor photos, two things you should remember to bring are an extra pair of shoes and some cute umbrellas. The change of shoes will keep your ceremony shoes from getting dirty in the potentially bad weather. Additionally, having a cute umbrella on hand will ensure that you still get your winter wedding photographs even if there is bad weather. If there is no rain, you can always return it unused.

Winter Emergency Kit

Not much explanation needed here. Be sure to pack things like tissues for runny noses, hand warmers, shoe warmers, powder makeup for pictures if your face gets pink, Chapstick, and a really good moisturizer so your lips and face will not dry out in the cold.

Outdoor Ceremony Tips

To make a winter outdoor ceremony easier on your guests, let them know beforehand that the ceremony will be outside. Allowing guests to wait inside before your ceremony starts is also a nice gesture (if not everyone, the grandparents and older guests would appreciate it). Then once they make their way to the ceremony site be sure that you start your ceremony on time. Fabulously late is not that fabulous if all your guests are thinking about is their freezing toes. Then keeping your ceremony short and sweet would likely be greatly appreciated.

This brings us to simple ways to keep your guests warm while outside. You can provide blankets and hand warmers for them to use. If you don’t want to opt for hand warmers, a warm beverage bar is a super fun idea! You can offer them warm drinks before the ceremony begins such as apple cider, hot cocoa, or coffee to warm their insides and their hands! It is also a great idea to rent propane-powered patio heaters. These put off a lot of heat and will definitely make your guests feel more comfortable.
