Allergy Friendly Wedding Guide

Allergy Friendly wedding catering guide

Anyone who has planned a wedding knows that your catering is very important when it comes to guests’ enjoyment. After all, Happy tummies make for happy guests. However, this can be hard when a member of the wedding party or a guest has a severe food allergy. Food Allergies are becoming more common every day; nuts, gluten, fish, dairy – you name it – someone’s allergic to it. Food allergies can really put a damper on a wedding day if you are not proactive about it. From guests, cakes, buffets, and plates – this guide will help YOU plan a food allergy-friendly event that everyone can enjoy!

Communication

The very first step in planning a food-allergy-friendly wedding is communication. Communicating with your caterers and your guests is the best way to consider everyone’s needs.  Most caterers will be upfront and ask you about any allergens that they need to avoid for your event. In some cases, you might know if a guest has a severe allergy. For example, if the best man is allergic to tree nuts. When it comes to larger weddings, it is always tough to remember which guests can’t eat what. This is where being proactive is super important.

PRO TIP: Include an allergy space on the guest’s RSVP. Doing this will give you, your planner, and your caterers a comprehensive list of allergies beforehand. However, be careful of your verbiage doing this. Otherwise, you’ll have guests telling you that they don’t want carrots on their salad simply because they don’t like carrots.

CocCatering-4.18ktail Hour

Cocktail hour is always a fun time for guests to mingle while the wedding party is taking pictures. These menus vary – but whether or not these small, tasty bites are allergy-friendly is completely up to you! The most common cocktail hour treat that could cause potential problems would be a shrimp cocktail. But anyone who has been allergic to shellfish their whole life will likely not choose your big day to give it a try! So, when it comes to cocktail hour – serve what you want! Guests can forego eating it.
