We all know that planning a wedding at any time of year can be a bit stressful. People are constantly trying to come up with tips and tricks to make the planning process easier. One tip that you don’t hear very often; plan around the holidays! We don’t just mean Thanksgiving and Christmas… but every holiday and important date! We’ve created a simple downloadable Holiday Guide to help you! With the holiday season fast approaching, we thought this would be a great time to share our favorite perks when it comes to planning your wedding around holidays!
Long Weekends = More FUN!
When planning your wedding around the holidays, you should always start by looking at 3-day weekends. The two most popular are Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends. If you begin planning festivities on Friday, this gives you almost 4 days of possible wedding festivities! Using a long weekend also gives you and your guests more flexibility when it comes to traveling. Added bonus – if you book your wedding on the Sunday or Monday of the long weekend, you could be looking at some serious discounts!
It’s Easier to Visualize Your Dream Wedding
If you love a particular holiday or time of year, it’s always so much fun to plan around it! We’ve seen many Halloween-themed weddings, and Christmas trees are sure to fill up our venues every December. Whether you go all out or keep it subtle, a holiday theme will always be timeless and FUN!
If you don’t want to opt for a themed wedding but still love the idea… try a themed shower or bachelor/bachelorette trip! This is such a fun way to incorporate your favorite holidays while keeping it more low-key.
Shop the Sales
Not only can you plan your wedding date around the holidays, but you can plan your wedding planning around the holidays! By doing this, you can take advantage of holiday sales when it comes to wedding-related items. Keeping tabs on what you need to purchase and when you need to purchase helps to ensure that you will stay on schedule and save a little money in the process.
You Avoid In-Opportune Dates
When you plan your wedding around holidays, it is always a nice gesture to note religious and cultural holidays. For example, if close family or friends are devout Christians, you might want to avoid planning your wedding on Easter weekend. You know your guests better than anyone, so if you know details like this beforehand, it’s always nice to be considerate.
Planning around holidays will also help you weed out the dates that YOU don’t want to have your wedding. For example, football fans might want to skip planning a wedding on Super Bowl Sunday. Superstitious couples likely won’t want to tie the knot on Friday the 13th. Is politics a touchy family subject? It might be best to avoid weddings during election week. You get the drift 😉
In-season Decor and Florals
When you plan your wedding around a holiday (especially a bigger one) you will likely have an easier time choosing your florals and decorations. Your florist will be able to help you choose florals to match your theme that are also in season. For example, during Christmas time, you can’t go wrong with greenery like fir or eucalyptus. Or using dried flowers around Halloween or Thanksgiving gives you the perfect fall vibe.
