Summer Wedding Tips

Summer weddings are absolutely gorgeous and extremely popular! They call it wedding season for a reason, right?! If you are planning an outdoor summer wedding, however, the southern heat can be tough to work with. Take a look at some of our tips when it comes to planning an outdoor summer wedding!

Venue

If you are planning a summer wedding, be sure to keep the weather in mind when choosing your venue. You are going to want a venue that has options – trust us. While outdoor ceremonies are our FAVORITES – sometimes, the summer heat can be a little bit too much of a scorcher. Choose a venue that has a backup plan on hand for weather-related changes. Take The Springs, for example, each of our venues has a stage or beautiful focal point indoors that makes for just as beautiful of a backdrop in the case of extreme heat.

If you’re set on an outside wedding (we don’t blame, you 😉) it is always fun to get creative. Look for shady spots in the landscaping of your venue. This will make your ceremony site unique + you and your guests can get out of the direct sunlight for a while!

Attire

When you’re planning a summer wedding, appropriate attire choice is going to be your saving grace. To be comfortable throughout the day, pick a light fabric and a dress with shorter sleeves – the same will go for your bridesmaids.

Summer weddings are the perfect time to get creative with the groom and groomsmen’s attire. Linen suits are always a great choice, but if you want to go even more cool and casual, they don’t even need suits! A nice button-down and khakis are not only budget-friendly, but heat-friendly as well.

Timeline

Arrange the timeline of your summer wedding around the hottest parts of the day. You don’t want to look all sweaty for photos so, try to take the majority of your photos before your outdoor ceremony. This will also give you more time to enjoy cocktail hour and the rest of your reception with your guests.

Drinks

Have a drink station available for your guests. You can get creative by serving infused water, lemonade or even having a bartender serve signature drinks before the ceremony. This will give your guests a cool drink to sip on and keep them cool during your ceremony. If you choose to do a self-serve water station, then it’s always a great idea to direct the bartenders to start making drinks during the ceremony. This allows the guests to have a drink waiting on them as soon as the ceremony is over! We stand by that tip no matter the weather! 😉

Be Transparent

Our biggest summer wedding tip (that your guests are sure to appreciate) is to please be transparent with your guests when it comes to an outdoor ceremony. This will help guests be prepared for the day in their attire choice and extras like sunglasses or sunscreen.
